Keep Summer Alive!
| |
We're struggling, and straining, and attempting lightning bursts of speed, but Labor Day is close on our heels. And we're not supposed to be running in heels! Rapidly fading are the days of popsicles and lemonade and sarong-covered bikinis (cue sad summertime music. Or Barbra Streisand's "Memories"). Soon we will long for the days where we climb into our car, that has been sitting in the blistering sun for hours, and singe our backsides on the leather seats. Wait a minute. That's not a fun part of summer. But since summer is going to be leaving us soon, we would benefit from focusing on all the negative things about it. You know, the way you read, and re-read the "Cons" half of the "Pros and Cons" list you made about your last boyfriend, after the breakup. Let the healing begin! We'll work on keeping other things alive.

Keep the Olympic Spirit Alive!
|

When we last left our heroine, Kerry Golightly, she was jetting off to the mystical cultural wonderland of China. Cruising down the Yangtze River, wearing a triangle rice hat (I'm embellishing a bit), she pondered the ways of Confucius. In real life, Kerry expounded on the sheer size of things: "Wow! Color me impressed with China...they certainly know how to do things in a big way...Check out lunch":
We will have more from Kerry's update next week in Blogiday Golightly. Stay tuned! In our own, Stateside nod to the Olympics, we featured Olympic swimmer Aaron Peirsol in our Friday Men slot. Go USA!

Keep School Spirit Alive!

Back to school? Already?! Oh yes. We've seen pictures. Those "first day of school" pictures that our friends take, of their unbearably adorable little urchins, book-bags and lunches in hand. What? No more splashing at the pool, in our water wings? Urf. Summer was too short! Is it wrong that we're using back-to-school as an excuse to go boot shopping? Even though we're not in school?
To assist you in the back-to-school shopping for grown-ups, we discussed the latest fad in online shopping: email sample sales. Charge!

There really isn't a need to "keep wine alive", as the wine industry is thriving. Vintner and owner of Napa Valley's Larkmeade, Cam Baker says 2008 is going to be "an exceptional year", and that is music to our ears. As far as girlfriend getaways go, winery tours are absolutely in the Top 5. Maybe Top 2. Or Top 1. Wine, cheese, baguettes, girlfriends and someone to drive you around? You can't beat that.
We did our own little winery weekend, over in Eastern Washington, and wrote up all the highlights of the experience. Check out our Walla Walla Winery Wandering.

| Keep Summer Vacation Alive! |
|
You can do it! You can squeeze it in! One last summer trip! Maybe it's just a weekend fling, or "maybe" your return flight from Oahu
got canceled and you can't get another one for 5 days? We like that idea better. For whatever reason, summer just has a more relaxed vibe than any other season, and as soon as Labor Day rolls around, life will inevitably pick up speed. And you'll be there, running in your heels (Cole Haan makes those great pumps with Nike Air, so try those).
If you can't swing a summer trip, just pick up one of our Top 10 Beach Reads, and sit in the backyard with some lemonade and a big, floppy hat.
